The Federal Climate Adaptation Act came into force on July 1, 2024. It obliges the public sector to take the expected effects of climate change into account when making plans and decisions. It is expected to extend the state’s existing liability for climate impact damage. KPMG Law expert Moritz Püstow reports more on this in the guest article in ESGZ.
“In future, companies and individuals will be able to make greater claims against the state for climate damage suffered if state infrastructure does not prove to be climate-resilient and this results in damage.”
