KPMG Law and KPMG are advising Diehl Defence on the acquisition of the Dr. Carls aerial imagery database

KPMG Law Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH (KPMG Law) and KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft (KPMG) advised Diehl Defence on its acquisition of the aerial imagery database Dr. Carls GmbH. KPMG Law and KPMG had previously advised Diehl Defence in November 2025 on its acquisition of the Tauber Group.

KPMG Law supported Diehl Defence with a team spanning multiple locations and service lines on all legal aspects of the transaction. KPMG provided tax advisory services.

Dr. Carls GmbH’s aerial imagery database specializes in the acquisition and analysis of historical aerial photographs and records to identify potential unexploded ordnance. The company also offers consulting and training services and operates in Germany and Austria. The company currently employs approximately 80 people.

Tauber is part of Diehl Defense, which consolidates the Diehl Group’s defense technology activities and specializes in services related to explosive ordnance disposal as well as systems engineering and specialized civil engineering. With the acquisition of the aerial imagery database provider Dr. Carls GmbH, Tauber is expanding its range of services in the field of preliminary explosive ordnance reconnaissance and supplementing it with the upstream phase of historical aerial imagery and document research.

The Dr. Carls GmbH aerial imagery database will continue to operate within Diehl Defence as an independent company with its own management and will complement the Tauber Group’s existing service portfolio in the future. The transaction will further expand the company’s range of services, from historical preliminary reconnaissance and geophysical detection to the recovery, defusing, and disposal of unexploded ordnance.
