Strengthening of the Energy Industry and Raw Materials Practice Group in the area of renewable energies

The international law firm KPMG Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH (KPMG Law) is strengthening its Bremen office and expanding its Energy and Natural Resources Practice Group in the field of renewable energies. As of July 1, 2012, Rainer Heidorn, a lawyer specializing in complex wind energy projects, will join KPMG Law.

“I care a lot about corporate and tax law on the one hand and the renewable energy industry on the other,” Heidorn says. He particularly emphasizes the cooperation of KPMG Law with KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft. “In this respect, the multidisciplinary work with Audit, Tax and Advisory and the strong roots of KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft in the traditional energy industry offer the opportunity to apply and further expand my experience.”

The 43-year-old lawyer joins KPMG Law in the position of partner. He joins from Blanke Meier Evers, having started his career at the law firm Dopatka. Heidorn’s practice initially focused on tax and corporate law, but steadily shifted to renewable energy, primarily in the form of complex wind energy projects. Heidorn has been active primarily in offshore wind energy projects since 2008.

Manfred Kessler, Managing Director of KPMG Law, commented on this new addition: “I am pleased that with Rainer Heidorn we have been able to gain a pronounced specialist in renewable energies. With him, the Bremen office will be significantly strengthened.”

Thorsten Volz, Partner at KPMG Law and Head of the Energy and Natural Resources Practice Group, added: “Our team has been in place since late 2010 and has been very successful in expanding and winning interesting mandates, particularly in the areas of conventional power generation, industrial clients and regulatory issues.” Classical energy law topics should be dealt with in greater depth and strengths in renewable energies in particular should be further developed. “We are therefore very pleased to have Mr. Heidorn with us as a proven offshore expert and to work with him to implement this goal.”
