KPMG Law strengthens commercial and distribution law as well as antitrust and merger control with two new partners in Stuttgart and Berlin

KPMG Law has been strengthened with two new additions at partner level as of May 1, 2023: Dr. Jonas Brueckner joins the antitrust and competition law practice area in Berlin as a partner; in Freiburg/Stuttgart, Dr. Kai-Oliver Giesa joins the team as an expert in commercial and distribution law.

KPMG Law significantly expands its antitrust practice with an additional partner and strengthens its Berlin office. Dr. Jonas Brueckner joins from Baker McKenzie and advises clients in all areas of European and German antitrust and merger control law. He brings years of experience in domestic and global merger control proceedings as well as international antitrust and compliance mandates. He advises clients on cooperation with competitors and distribution antitrust issues and also represents them in antitrust and state aid disputes before the European courts. Brueckner also specializes in assisting companies with internal investigations and defending and enforcing antitrust damages. His industry focus is on clients in the automotive, energy, transportation, consumer goods and services sectors.

Prior to joining Baker McKenzie, Mr. Brueckner worked for several years in the antitrust practice of Linklaters in Brussels and as a government counsel in the Federal Ministry of Economics in Berlin.

Dr. Kai-Oliver Giesa comes from SNP Schlawien. Previously, he was with CMS Hasche Sigle (now CMS) in the Commercial division from 2010 to 2021. Giesa specializes in commercial and distribution law, advising clients in particular on the drafting and negotiation of operational contracts and in the area of product liability. He has extensive experience in building and restructuring distribution systems. Its industry focus is on the mobility sector, including the automotive industry, e-mobility and the petroleum sector, mechanical engineering and the electronics industry.

Mr. Giesa will expand the KPMG Law team at the Freiburg and Stuttgart offices and will support clients nationwide from there. The focus of his work at KPMG Law will be on advising clients on all legal issues relating to the purchase and sale of products and services. This includes, in particular, supporting companies in meeting new challenges in the mobility sector and in implementing the Supply Chain Sourcing Obligations Act. Kai-Oliver Giesa will expand the Commercial business unit and co-head it together with Dr. Thomas Uhlig.
