Sustainability at KPMG Law

Our sustainability program: Our Impact Plan

Our contribution to a sustainable future

We at KPMG Law Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH (hereinafter referred to as KPMG Law) want to play an active role in shaping the transition to a sustainable economy and society. As an internationally oriented, multidisciplinary law firm that combines legal, business and technological expertise, we understand sustainability as the continuous development of our own company towards greater sustainability. At the same time, we want to contribute to the sustainable transformation of our clients and the economy by providing responsible legal advice.

With this in mind, we are continuously developing our sustainability program Our Impact Plan with the four areas of action Governance, People, Planet and Prosperity. Our aim is to act responsibly in all areas of our activities, create trust in society and provide positive impetus for sustainable development.

As a legally independent commercial law firm, we, KPMG Law, are associated and closely linked with KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft (hereinafter referred to as KPMG AG). This cooperation gives us the opportunity, together with the employees of KPMG AG and its Audit, Tax, Deal Advisory, Consulting, Financial Services and Performance & Strategy divisions, to offer our clients comprehensive, holistic and, if necessary, international support. Furthermore, the association also promotes a uniform quality of service and compliance with agreed values. Although KPMG Law and KPMG AG are legally independent entities, we pursue the same goals in the area of sustainability and largely rely on identical measures to implement them.

Further information on the global sustainability program can be found here: KPMG: Our Impact Plan.

“For me, progress toward a responsible and sustainable economy is based on a shared commitment to actively embrace change. At KPMG Law, we combine our legal expertise with modern technologies, thereby creating clear added value for our clients. Our teams drive this transformation with a high degree of professionalism and an openness to new approaches. At the same time, we consistently fulfill our social responsibilities—from education and sustainability to fostering an inclusive work environment. Our sustainability program, Our Impact Plan, highlights the steps we’ve already taken and how we’ll continue to expand our activities.”

Planet

Climate Protection as Part of Our Corporate Responsibility

As a service provider, our business activities impact both people and the environment. To live up to our commitment to use natural resources responsibly, we are pursuing a specific goal to reduce our environmental impact. We are committed to halving our carbon footprint by 2030 and, to this end, are implementing measures in four key areas through our National Environmental Program 2030. KPMG has also committed to a long-term net-zero target: By 2050, Scope 1–3 emissions are to be reduced by 90% compared to 2019; the remaining maximum of 10% will be offset through verified CO₂ removal processes.

Mobility: Reducing emissions through sustainable business travel practices and promoting climate-friendly mobility alternatives.

Supplier Management: Integrating environmental criteria into the selection of and collaboration with business partners.

Energy and Resource Consumption: Optimizing energy use and promoting efficient resource utilization at our office locations.

Commuting: Supporting sustainable commuting through flexible work models and mobility options.

With our ISO 14001-certified environmental management system, we are able to continuously monitor the environmental impacts of all our locations and solution lines and make targeted improvements. At the same time, we aim to strengthen our employees’ environmental awareness and empower them to use energy and resources responsibly. Through targeted measures, we highlight concrete, practical ways to achieve greater environmental sustainability. Our environmental policy provides the framework for this and defines clear principles for environmentally responsible actions, which we continue to develop together.
