Dr. Bernd Federmann: Rethinking compliance and keeping on top of new regulations.

In the worst-case scenario, sanctions for violations of the law can pose an existential threat to companies. So it’s no wonder that decision-makers prefer to play it safe – and rely on an expert like Bernd Federmann. Legislators are imposing more and more requirements, including on how companies should organize their compliance management systems. In many cases, this means far-reaching changes for organizations, which Bernd is supporting. Bernd not only keeps an eye on current legislation, but also observes the direction in which regulation is developing. After all, when setting up governance and compliance management systems, Bernd’s ability to look to the future is just as important as his many years of experience.

His mission

Bernd wants to make it as easy as possible for companies to comply with the law. He therefore optimizes compliance management in a variety of areas. For example, he is transforming conventional policy management into regulations management. To do this, he tailors the rules to the respective organization in such a way that only those people who fall within their scope of application have to comply with them.

His aim is to ensure that the governance and compliance management system fits the company, its processes and its strategic goals.

His approach

Starting with a deep understanding of his clients’ organizations and his expertise in organizational law and processes, Bernd not only develops a long-term governance and compliance strategy, but also specific measures and tools that companies can use to meet the legal requirements at an operational level. And he keeps at it: because compliance is not a one-off project. Legislators and other external factors are constantly setting new framework conditions. And companies are also constantly changing, for example by opening up new product areas and markets. It is therefore important to continuously understand which requirements are relevant for the company and what this means for the company.

His focus

  • Organizational governance advice on compliance management (CMS), risk management (RMS), internal audit (IA) and internal controls (ICS)
  • Operational support for the day-to-day use of these governance systems
