Climate friendliness – recently, claims about the sustainability of products and services have been piling up. Many consumers wonder if these claims are actually true. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly common for companies to claim a supposedly positive environmental impact without being able to prove it – so-called greenwashing. To combat this problem, the EU Commission presented a proposal for an EU directive on the “substantiation and communication of environmental advertising claims” on March 22, 2023 – the Green Claims Directive, which KPMG Law expert Isabelle Knoché discusses in her guest article for ESGZ.
