Compliance in SMEs is challenging: the legal responsibility for compliance is undisputed, but the specific tasks are unclear and depend on the specific situation of a company. Against this background, DIN SPEC 91524 emerged from the project “Empirical development and testing of a compliance standard for SMEs – MiCo” funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. The article by KPMG Law experts Bernd Federmann and Thomas Giering presents the guideline in the Corporate Compliance magazine 9/2025.
