KPMG Law: New management, new positioning

KPMG Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH (“KPMG Law”) is reorganizing under the leadership of Mathias Oberndörfer. In the future, four solution lines will facilitate cooperation with KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft (“KPMG AG”) and strengthen the development of solutions for clients. The firm thus finally leaves the start-up phase behind and sets the course for continued growth.

The four Solution Lines focus on client requirements for holistic services: either in the form of specific client groups (public sector incl. healthcare as well as financial services for banks and insurance companies) or in the context of transactions in which clients require legal advice (purchase and sale of companies). The fourth pillar is the Legal Operations Solution Line, which is primarily concerned with legal expertise in process changes for corporate groups and family businesses, keyword: Industry 4.0.

KPMG Law is thus creating the conditions for even better cooperation with KPMG AG. The background to this is the growing interest of clients in solutions that combine all relevant specialist areas.

For Mathias Oberndörfer, who has led KPMG Law since October 2016, the timing for the new setup is just right: “We have had a strong first decade. Today, we are one of the top 25 commercial law firms in Germany, with 33 partners and 220 professionals. Now we are leaving the start-up phase behind and setting ourselves up solidly for further growth.”

Additional focal points of the realignment are the further dovetailing of the legal areas with each other and stronger international networking within the KPMG Law network. In addition, the expansion of legal tech solutions and services based on them will play a major role. Says Oberndörfer, “Legal process outsourcing and other approaches promise not only greater efficiency, but also an increase in quality that benefits our clients.”
