The Chamber of Commerce in Arnsberg regularly awards prizes to the worst state roads in the Hellweg-Sauerland region of Westphalia. A funny idea, if it didn’t so clearly describe the drama of the transport infrastructure – and in the constituency of the likely next Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). However, the Chamber of Commerce’s campaign also shows what the CDU/CSU and SPD need to focus on in the coming legislative period: roads, railroads and waterways.
