The role of the legal department in the company has changed significantly in recent years. Its importance is high. However, it is also increasingly becoming the focus of attention when it comes to increasing efficiency and cutting costs. How can this balancing act be achieved?
KPMG Law expert Markus Fuhrmann, among others, answers this question in this article in In-house Counsel.
“Three or four KPIs should also be transparent in the legal department, preferably derived from the corporate objectives. Everything that is controllable is included. The costs to be influenced or the budget are the minimum that should be known, with the correct allocation. The budget for the following year should also be known. However, even these metrics are a challenge for some legal departments because they find it difficult to determine them and some legal services are not commissioned or tracked centrally.”
