KPMG Law and KPMG advise Q.ANT GmbH on a EUR 62 million Series A financing round

KPMG Law Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft (KPMG Law) and KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft (KPMG) advised Q.ANT GmbH with a cross-service team on a Series A financing round with a volume of EUR 62 million

KPMG Law and KPMG are supporting Q.ANT GmbH with the previous sole shareholder TRUMPF SE + Co. KG in a financing round with a volume of 62 million euros.

The financing round was led by Cherry Ventures, UVC Partners and imec.xpand with participation from other deep tech investors including L-Bank, Verve Ventures, Grazia Equity, EXF Alpha, LEA Partners, Onsight Ventures and TRUMPF.

The investment is one of the largest deep-tech financing rounds in Europe and is intended to accelerate the market launch of Q.ANT’s energy-efficient photonic processors for AI and high-performance data centers.

While AI infrastructure is growing worldwide, conventional chip technology (CMOS) is reaching its physical limits – performance is stagnating while power consumption continues to rise. A report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that the energy consumption of data centers will exceed Japan’s total annual electricity consumption by 2026. Q.ANT addresses this problem with a new approach: computing with light instead of electricity. The aim is to significantly improve performance and energy efficiency.

KPMG Law and KPMG provided comprehensive and cross-service advice, from the preparation of the financing round, including coordination with the tax authorities, to advice on the implementation of the transaction steps, to ensure a successful conclusion. As part of the transaction, KPMG Law, with a team in Berlin led by KPMG Law partner Stefan Kimmel, advised on the transaction structuring as well as the drafting and negotiation of the contracts and corporate documents underlying the transaction. A KPMG team led by Tim Dümichen, Carmen Egermann and Florian Geiger was responsible for the tax structuring of the financing round.

KPMG Law Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH: Stefan Kimmel (Lead, Partner, Corporate/M&A, Berlin), Dr. Cordula Brügmann (Senior Manager, Corporate/M&A, Hamburg), Raban Otten (Senior Associate, Corporate/M&A, Berlin), Philipp Augenstein (Senior Associate, Corporate/M&A, Munich), Dr. Anna Wipper (Partner, IP, Berlin), Dr. Thomas Beyer (Senior Manager, IP, Berlin), Dr. Jonas Brueckner (Partner, Antitrust, Berlin)

KPMG: Tim Dümichen (Partner, Corporate Tax, Berlin), Carmen Egermann (Senior Manager, Global Mobility Services – Reward Services, Regensburg), Florian Geiger (Partner, International Transaction Tax, Stuttgart), Till Karrer (Partner, Deal Advisory, Frankfurt am Main), Dr. Simon Wahl (Senior Manager, Deal Advisory, Frankfurt am Main), Robin Reibedanz (Manager, Corporate Tax, Berlin), Manuel Schirmer (Assistant Manager, Global Mobilily Services – Reward Services, Regensburg)
