Directive on Alternative Investment Fund Managers

Directive on Alternative Investment Fund Managers

On January 10, 2019, the European Commission published the report commissioned from KPMG Law Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH (KPMG Law) on the functioning of the provisions of the “Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive” (or AIFMD for short).

A cross-service team of specialists from KPMG Law, led by Ulrich Keunecke, KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft, in particular the KPMG EU Services Team led by Olaf Buske, as well as the global KPMG network had been investigating the impact of the AIFMD on the asset management market for the last 15 months on behalf of the EU Commission. The background to this is the requirement of Art. 69 AIFMD, according to which the EU Commission is called upon to review the AIFMD with regard to its achievement of objectives in the light of application experience. The report is an important part of this review.

Great thanks go to the national regulators for their support and to all participants in the online survey and expert interviews.
