KPMG Law sets new standards with the expertise of Otto Henning’s legal department consulting. Andreas Bong becomes Equity Partner of KPMG Law.

KPMG Law Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH is building up strategy and organizational consulting for legal departments with the expertise of Otto Henning, one of the leading management consultancies in this field. Managing Partner Andreas Bong joins KPMG Law as Equity Partner. The firm thus offers 360° consulting for legal departments: Legal, Organization and Legal Tech.

Otto Henning, based in Frankfurt am Main, specializes in strategic and organizational consulting for legal departments and law firms. The legal department business, headed by Andreas Bong and Dr. Michael Henning, comprises strategic consulting as well as the qualitative and quantitative optimization of in-house functions in the areas of legal, compliance and intellectual property. The company has been active in this field for 16 years and enjoys a high reputation across industries, also due to its long-standing series of studies.

Andreas Bong, who together with Dr. Michael Henning established and shaped the legal department consulting at Otto Henning over a period of ten years, joined KPMG Law as an equity partner on September 10, 2018. He represents the quality of Otto Henning’s legal department advice, which he will continue with immediate effect at KPMG Law as part of the “Legal Technology and Process” solution. With the acquisition, the Otto Henning brand is also transferred to KPMG Law. Bong will continue a series of reports by Otto Henning, including in particular the “Legal Department Report.” The publication, which is very well-known in the industry and focuses on the top 150 German legal departments, has been published since 2005. The next report will be published in the first half of 2019 – this time with an expansion to other European countries.

KPMG Law thus combines the legal tech and managed service solutions for which Philipp Glock is responsible with strategy and process consulting in legal departments to create a complementary offering. Strategic-procedural improvements in legal functions can thus be supported by the right selection and implementation of technical solutions (“legal tech”) as well as by the takeover of individual services by KPMG Law from a single source.

KPMG Law thus not only offers high-quality legal advice, but can also embed it in a (technically) optimized process model at or for cooperation with clients, thus breaking new ground for the entire industry. “We will enable our clients to perform their tasks faster, more efficiently and with greater legal certainty than before,” comments Mathias Oberndörfer, Managing Director of KPMG Law. For KPMG Law, the acquisition fits seamlessly into the MDP firm’s long-established strategy (multi-disciplinary practice): “At the intersection of legal and business expertise, technological know-how and process management, we offer comprehensive legal advice that goes far beyond what traditional law firms offer. The move is also embedded in the international strategy of the global KPMG Legal Services network, under which member countries are working together to continuously develop the range of advice offered to legal departments under the banner of “Legal Transformation”.

The founder of Otto Henning, Dr. Michael Henning, remains personally associated with the strategic idea that KPMG Law pursues in legal department consulting.
